Good to know
What is the Ikarus Code?+
A short formula made of three layers: your Western sun sign with its decan (the third of the sign your sun falls in), your Chinese year animal with its element and — if you provide time and place — your ascendant. Together they form a profile that bridges two traditions.
Why does my birth year sometimes belong to the previous year?+
The Chinese calendar is lunisolar: the year begins with the New Year festival, which falls between January 21 and February 20. If you were born before that date, you still belong to the previous animal. The calculator uses astronomically determined New Year dates from 1900 to 2100.
What is a decan?+
Each zodiac sign spans 30 degrees of the ecliptic and is divided into three decans of 10 degrees each. Every decan has its own sub-ruler and gives the sign a distinct nuance — which is why two Leos don't always feel the same.
What do I need my birth time and place for?+
For the ascendant: the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the minute of your birth. It changes roughly every two hours and depends on your location. Without time and place, we still calculate your sun sign and year animal — only the ascendant stays open.
What happens to my birth data?+
Nothing. The entire calculation runs in your browser, no server is contacted and nothing is stored. Even the place search uses a built-in list, not a map service. The share link contains only the result, never your input.
The Ikarus Code is meant for self-reflection and entertainment. The astronomical values are calculated, but the interpretation is not a prediction and does not replace medical, legal, psychological, or financial advice.
